Crossword Puzzle Books for Adults

Crossword puzzles are one of the world's favourite puzzle types, and have been ever since they were first invented. There are now two major types of the puzzle - the US style puzzle and grid and the British style puzzle and grid. All our crossword books on this page are the British style of crossword puzzle, featuring British English grids and clues/answers throughout.

The joy of the crossword is in the simplicity of the rules combined with how varied and different the puzzles are: simply answer each of the clues by writing the answers in the interlocking grid. However, since the clues make the puzzle, then every puzzle is very different. There are also various types of crossword, from quick crosswords that have fairly short synonym style clues, through to general knowledge crosswords that are much more a test of your quiz-style knowledge, and even cryptic crosswords, the particularly fiendish version of the crossword that takes a while to get into but is great fun and satisfying to solve once you do!

Concise Crosswords

Our book of concise crosswords contains a 100 of this fun twist on the standard quick crossword puzzle. If you've not come across a concise crossword before, they work the same as a normal quick crossword, however the first two or three answers in the across direction are a homophone of another word or phrase. We've included what the answers to each of these are at the back of the book.

We've marked the relevant clues with a star in the book. As an example, on puzzle one these clues are Salver (4) and Eg perform karaoke(4). These give you the answer TRAY and SING. If you say those words out loud, they sound like (are a homophone) of TRACING, and so that's the answer for this puzzle. If the first three across answers were LOSS, SANG and JELLIES can you work out what the answer would be? (Hint: it's a major US city!)
